The West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD), which is located
on a 40-hectare prime waterfront land overlooking the magnificent
Victoria Harbour, will be developed into an integrated arts
and cultural district with world-class facilities, distinguished
talents, iconic architecture and quality programmes with a
must-visit appeal to locals and tourists.
The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA), a statutory
body that plans, manages and operates the WKCD, has decided to organise
a three-stage public engagement (PE) exercise to hear the
voices of both the general public and stakeholders including
those from the arts and cultural sector in a structured way.
The views received will be taken into account in the planning
and design process of the WKCD.
Stage 1 of the PE exercise started on 8 October 2009, lasting
for three months. In this Stage, the WKCDA gauged the community's
expectations on the planning of the WKCD as a whole, as well
as the views of the stakeholders in the arts and cultural
sector. In addition to hardware of arts and culture facilities,
the WKCDA also sought public's views on audience building and
programming.
A consultation leaflet was prepared for this exercise. Members of the public were welcome to send the Authority their views via the questionnaire, by email ([email protected]), fax (852-2895 0021) or mail (Secretariat, Board of WKCD Authority, 7/F, 98 Caroline Hill Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong) before 7 January 2010.
There were three public forums held in Stage 1 of the PE exercise. In addition to the public forums, the WKCDA has organised a number of focus group meetings for various stakeholder groups. Focus group meetings were open and members of the public were welcome to attend as observers.
